What a Relief!

Democrats take the House, probably the Senate and to top it all off Rumsfeld resigns. Vindication doesn't get much better than this. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the Democrats either, but in the current climate I'll take a Democrat any day. The GOP had gotten too out of hand. This whole "War on Terror" bullshit had given them way too much power. I thought for sure a coup d'etat was just around the corner. [who knows maybe Bush will totally loose it and start 'Executive Ordering' all kinds of crazy shit].

I don't think the Democrats are going to get anything done to get back our personal freedoms but at least (hopefully) they won't be eroded further in the next two years. Maybe that massive 700 mile long wall we're planning on building on the Mexican border will get shelved. Maybe the Patriot Act will expire for good. Maybe the Feds will need a subpoena again to wire tap us. Maybe Halliburton will get dragged into a hearing on cost overruns in Iraq. Maybe we'll find out some juicy details on 9-11 (tall order, I know).

The Democrats have got a tar baby with Iraq however and the longer they hold onto it, the more tar-ridden they are going to become. Right now everyone knows Bush broke Iraq (see Pottery Barn Rule) but if the Democrats can't pressure Bush to change course then they'll start to look just as culpable come 2008.

Today the air is a little lighter, the sun (although cloudy here) shines brighter. I feel that Americans finally pulled their heads out and maybe some voted differently than they usually do but that they did it for a higher goal of sending a message and stemming the idiocy of the last six years.

And thank God Rick Santorum is out!

I don't pay much attention to politics. If I did, I would vote Democrat. What this election should allow us is some gridlock which is the most effective form of Government.

Also note that aside from caucuses there is still a Republican majority in the Senate...Webb is a Republican in donkey's clothing and "independent" Lieberman is going to vote pro-war at every available opportunity.

And on what planet does the Democratic party stand for personal freedoms? Generally speaking, the basic tenet of the Democratic party is bigger Government that controls more of everything. Aside from esoteric civil liberties which are a ruse anyway. If you really think the Gov has any more ability to invade your civil liberties than it did before any of this crap went down, you're really seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. "The man" has always been watching to the best of his ability and always will. The abilities are just becoming much more refined while we all leave nice electronic trails of everywhere we've been, everything we've bought, and almost everything we've communicated to anyone. The whole "wire tap" thing is the reddest fucking herring on the face of the Earth. Please.
